A home that stays organized after I leave.
Organizational tips that work when real life happens. Most organizing ends the day the job ends. I teach you the STORE Method while we work, so you can keep the system going in your own home, in your own way.
Organizing you can repeat
An organizer can empty a closet and make it look beautiful for a week. That is not the job. The job is to leave you with a system you understand well enough to adapt it yourself when the season changes, the baby arrives, or the family grows out of the old setup.
So while we sort your space, I explain why each decision was made. By the end you have an organized room, and you also have a method you can carry into the next room without me.
A practical organizing method for any space
The STORE Method
Five steps you can apply to any space in the house.
Smart Placement / Give everything a practical home
Ask yourself: Where do I use it, how often, and with what?
- Give the easiest space to reach to the things you use most. Sort by daily, weekly, and yearly use.
- Store items near the place where you use them.
- If you use it together, store it together.
Tops Clear / Clear surfaces make a room feel calmer
Ask yourself: What really needs to stay out?
- Keep surfaces empty on purpose.
- Find a home for the items that usually live on a surface.
- Do not leave bags out. Use an Outgoing Bin.
- Keep a Time Will Tell Bin as a temporary home for items you cannot place yet.
Only What Fits / Let your space set the limit
Ask yourself: What fits comfortably in this space?
- Take everything out.
- Slowly put back what you want to keep.
- Whatever fits comfortably, stays. The space sets the limit, not the pile.
Return / Putting it back must be easy
Ask yourself: What gets in the way of putting this back?
- Label the bin and the shelf. Use picture labels for children.
- Use open bins for the items you reach for most.
- Store items standing up instead of stacked when you can.
- Easy to take out, easy to put back.
Every Day / Small habits keep systems working
Ask yourself: What can I finish in five minutes right now?
- Set a 5-minute daily timer and stop when it rings.
- Measure the task by minutes, not by its name.
- OHIO: Only Handle It Once.
Ways to work together
In your home
We work through a room, or the whole house, one space at a time. You end with the room organized and with the reasoning behind every choice.
A system you keep
For people who have been organized before and watched it come undone. The focus is on the habits and the labels that make a system survive a normal week.
Workshops
The STORE Method presented to a school staff, an organization, or a group of friends, with a handout everyone takes home.
Tell me about the room that is bothering you.
Send a message and describe the space. I will tell you honestly whether it is a one session job or something larger.
